Remembered Today:

RFC Landing Ground?

Recommended Posts

Taking an interest in local WW1 history, someone mentioned to me recently that there may have been an RFC landing ground at Westpole Avenue, Cockfosters (it's at the end of the Piccadilly line!). I was told it was known as "Westpole Farm" and that the RAF Museum's only reference is to say that the land was disposed of after the War.

Has anyone heard of this particular landing ground? My theory is that it may simply have been a designated landing ground for a nearby airfield (possibly Chingford) and may not have been used.

Any information gratefully received.
