micks Posted 25 December , 2013 Share Posted 25 December , 2013 Hi all I,m researching the 9th Infantry Brigade on the Aisne in September 1914 and require some assistance. The CWGC has given me a reference of 22.1.F.98.08 for a soldier of the Royal Scots who was killed there in 1914. Does anybody have this map from Rouge Maison Farm through to Celles. Any help would be appreciated All the best over Christmas Micks
CROONAERT Posted 26 December , 2013 Share Posted 26 December , 2013 It's not a trench-map reference. Sheet 22 'Soissons' was a 1:100,000 scale general campaign map. Dave
micks Posted 26 December , 2013 Author Share Posted 26 December , 2013 Dave Thanks for your input Yes I,m aware that it is not a official trench map reference. Last year I received a simular response from the CWGC regarding another burial. It would appear that not all officers who were sent out with field companies knew the fundamentals of map reading. I want to see if by using the coordinates on a basic east north setting if the burial location is situated on the ridge to the east of spur 169. The Royal Scots were in this area in September 1914. Phil Evans Posted 26 December , 2013 Share Posted 26 December , 2013 Micks, A bit of a long bus ride for you, but the National Archives at Kew has what appears to be two larger scale sets of the area: WO 297/2905 - 2910 (1:20,000) WO 297/5442 - 5447 (1:40,000) Phil

MBrockway Posted 26 December , 2013 Share Posted 26 December , 2013 Based on this ... 22.1.F.98.08 converts to this approx position according to me ... ... which could indeed be "the ridge to the east of spur 169"
