Does anyone know what the 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers was doing on 28 Feb 1917? One of the men I am researching was killed in action that day.

Grateful, as always, for any help you can give.

The battalion was attacking Palz trench at 5.30 am on the 28th. There is quite a lengthy after action report in the war diary. For instant gratification it can be downloaded form the national archives website - WO95/2301 for £3.50. If you can afford to wait send me a PM with an email address and I'll send the relevant pages after Christmas.

Kind regards

This forum post is very helpful to me as I am researching my uncle 2nd Lieutenant David Lewis ( we share the name) who according to the CWG records was killed in action on this day 28th February 1917 . I believe he was killed during the attack on the Palz Trench on this day and I was hoping to access the Royal Fusiliers war diary for further information however I am somewhat unfamiliar with the National Archives web site and have so far had no success in getting to the relevant files. When I browsed to WO95/2301/3 which I believe to be the relevant pages I got the response that this is not currently digitised and not downloadable but I was offered the option to request a document copy. I subsequently received a reply stating "Unfortunately, we are unable to provide an estimate at present because the documents you requested are in use"

Does anyone have any helpful hints about getting site of the war diary for and leading up to 28th Feb 1917

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

David Lewis
