Remembered Today:

2Lt William Reginald Worsley Somerset LI - which 4th Bn?

One of the OEs I am researching is 2Lt William Reginald Worsley. Both KES and CWGC say he was in the 4th Bn Somerset LI but they don't say which one. He died on 1 Aug 17 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate. But 1/4 were in Mesopotamia in Aug 17, 2/4 were on a boat or at least heading towards a boat that was to take them from India to Suez, and 3/4 were in Sutton Veny so I think he must have been with another Bn. Other Bns that were in that neck of the woods in Aug 17 are 1st, 7th and 8th.

Can anyone clarify which Bn he was in please?

Only one other casualty of 1.8.1917 was 8th Battalion.

William was an OR in the Somerset Yeomanry prior to his Commission in the SLI. His file may confirm the Battalion moves. WO374/76917 at Kew,but not digital.

You could ask in the Look Ups Section here for someone to take a look.
