the-5th-kings Posted 23 December , 2013 Posted 23 December , 2013 Hi I am looking for some help identifying a cap badge. I think it may be - Inns of Court but I am not sure. If it is right, was this officer training and if so how do you find out what regiment the person went to. I would be very greatful for any help anybody could give. Thank you Colin
ralphjd Posted 23 December , 2013 Posted 23 December , 2013 Yep, 'tis the Inns of Court OTC badge, what is the chaps name ? Ralph.
the-5th-kings Posted 23 December , 2013 Author Posted 23 December , 2013 His name was Daniel Connor - born 1882 - He lived in Seacombe, Wirral. His brother Thomas was in the Cheshire Regiment but I cannot find anything for Daniel Colin
Sepoy Posted 23 December , 2013 Posted 23 December , 2013 There is a publication "Inns of Court Officer Training Corps in the Great War" which lists all it members. This can be downloaded herehttps://archive.org/details/innsofcourtoffic00erri Hope this helps Sepoy
the-5th-kings Posted 23 December , 2013 Author Posted 23 December , 2013 Sepoy Thank you for the link. I have just had a look and cannot see any Connor in it. It is just a thought but as I cannot find anything for Daniel in the records or book, Does the book only show people who passed the training - He might have failed for so me reason. I do not know but cannot understand why I can find no record of any kind for him. Thank you Colin
Andrew Upton Posted 23 December , 2013 Posted 23 December , 2013 My first thoughts on seeing the uniform was that it appears to be of the better material/cut usually favoured by members of the VTC, rather than an OTC unit. A quick Google reveals there was an Inn's of Court VTC as well as an OTC, but I could not locate an image of their badge to compare.
johntanner Posted 23 December , 2013 Posted 23 December , 2013 From British Badge Forum. Badge on the left has lugs behind, so appears to be coller dog but scroll is Inns Of Court VRC. John
Guest Posted 23 December , 2013 Posted 23 December , 2013 Thanks John, I was just looking at that site, but am not a member, so could not view. Click Mike
johntanner Posted 23 December , 2013 Posted 23 December , 2013 Mike Nor was I until about 1 minute before making the post! Now engrossed in the detail of Bucks Yeomanry badges! John
Old Owl Posted 23 December , 2013 Posted 23 December , 2013 The badge in the portrait is definitely Inns of Court O.T.C., but as you say Daniel Connor does not appear in the publication, even under staff and other appendices. There are two possibilities: 1) the photo is not who you think it is, or 2) Daniel Connor was a member of the IOC in the early 1900's and had either left the IOC or had died, pre WW1.
the-5th-kings Posted 23 December , 2013 Author Posted 23 December , 2013 Thank you all for the replies I know nothing about the Inns of Court. Can you tell me please what the VTC, the OTC or the VRC are. oxandbucks, the first badge you put on looks like the one in the photo but I think the one in the photo might have a crown on it if this means anything. Thank you Colin
the-5th-kings Posted 23 December , 2013 Author Posted 23 December , 2013 Old owl In the 1901 and the 1911 census, Daniel was a mariner so I dont think he was in before 1911 but it is possible he might of been in between 1911-14. I have always been told this was Daniel Connor but I think it more likely somebody might have got confused over the years. Thank you for your help Colin
the-5th-kings Posted 27 December , 2013 Author Posted 27 December , 2013 Sepoy or anybody Would you know if there is a pre-war publication like the one above for the Inns of court. Daniel would have to be 32 at the start of the war but I think he looks a bit younger in the photo. Thank you Colin
