Terry Posted 29 September , 2004 Posted 29 September , 2004 It is always wonderful to find a memorial plaque named to a man whose medals may reside in your collection. It is especially nice to find a plaque with a unique name. I have just obtained the plaque to ARTHUR REUBEN ERNEST WOOD. As 124 Pte.A.R.E.Wood, 8th Bn.,CEF, he was killed in action on 24 April,1915 at 2nd Ypres. Now my quest will be to track down his medals!
Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 29 September , 2004 Posted 29 September , 2004 Terry, A victim of the first gas attack? Nice find - well done, Ian
PhilB Posted 29 September , 2004 Posted 29 September , 2004 Surely the 2nd gas attack - Battle of St Julien? Phil B
Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 29 September , 2004 Posted 29 September , 2004 Surely the 2nd gas attack - Battle of St Julien? Phil B Yes - sorry my message was misleading - a mate lost his grandfather in the 2nd Ypres and calls it the first gas attack on Canadians. Ian
Derek Robertson Posted 30 September , 2004 Posted 30 September , 2004 Terry, With your luck do you fancy putting some numbers on the Lottery for me on Saturday night?
PhilB Posted 30 September , 2004 Posted 30 September , 2004 Could be, Ian. 1st gas attack - 22 Apr. 5,8,13 &15 Bns. Midnight counterattack by 10&16 Bns. Different battle - Gravenstafel Ridge. (Apologies if this is old news!) Phil B
Terry Posted 30 September , 2004 Author Posted 30 September , 2004 Some weeks back I was able to obtain from the same fellow a plaque to ALEXANDER ALAN HENDERSON, 27494 Pte.A.A.Henderson, 15th Bn.,CEF, who was badly wounded and captured at the same time and ended up dying as a POW on 7 August of that year. I normally collect groups, and my special interest is 2nd Ypres. I have quite a number of CEF groups, and even a couple of BEF trios (one 1914 star and one 1914-15 star trio); however, when I had the chance at these plaques I had to have them! Perhaps one day I may even find the trios that go with them.

Terry Posted 1 October , 2004 Author Posted 1 October , 2004 Hi David, Good to see you back on the forum. Methinks a certain little addition to the family has been keeping you busy. I will drop you a line regarding the plaque. Cheers, Terry
