How fantastic these books are.

I can't read them but I can look at images and graphics.

the maps and unit formations at the back are in fantastic detail.

Thanks for pointing them out.

Hi,

Not (yet ?) translated, but a text version exists for those who don't read fraktur. For have an idea of the content, automatic translation paragraph by paragraph is -relatively- acceptable, more from German to English than toward French.

I wonder if anyone knows enough German to be able to translate about half of the attached page? I can get odd words but the script is defeating me. From the para starting 'Das Borgehen der 7./84' to the end of the description of the incident when the battery was lost. Any help greatly appreciated.

The post by alain dubois 8 May 2014 says " a text version exists for those who don't read fraktur" If you access the text version, you could then use Google Translate.

Maureen

Edit I now see you have double posted and already received a reply on your duplicate post

Maureen - thank you, I did not know about the text versions. Apologies if any confusion. Thought I'd deleted the duplicate. I obviously hadn't.

Hi there

I know it's been a few years, but I have only recently taken an interest in German official accounts of the Great War.

Many thanks are due to the chaps who put together this list, but I'm surprised that there are no accounts of the Battle of the Somme for August-November 1916. Is this an oversight, or have I missed something?

Alternatively, could anyone please advise where I might find, in Schlachten des Weltkrieges or elsewhere, German accounts of the Battle of the Somme for the August- November period  (I am particularly interested in September 1916).

Thanks - Bill

Hi Bill

No you haven‘t, all the books in the series have been listed above.
It depends on what level you are interested in, there is the German OH it covers the Somme in Vols 10 and 11

https://digi.landesbibliothek.at/viewer/toc/AC01858814/1/LOG_0000/

Jack Sheldon‘s German Army on the Somme is apparently very good

Then there are numerous Regimental Histories available on line but you would have to be specific about date and sector to get the most helpful ones.
