I'm 2 chapters in the 1967 edition, owned by Defense Library ... any way to have a quick summary of the two new chapters??? M. The original book was 133 pages but the original manuscript was half as long again . In the new book the author's son has inserted some pieces to fill the gaps in the winter of 17/18 and expanded his account of the German Spring offensive , including a map. The new chapters are called 'Postscript' and ' Afterword' . 'Postscript' is twelve pages long and includes accounts by his sister and mother about how they heard of him being wounded ( his mother went to him in hospital at Boulogne ) . His own account of his time in Boulogne and how serious his wounds were and his recovery in England . Also his post-war careers up till 1928 . 'Afterword' is only three pages long , it tells of what his son discovered alongside the original manuscript . For example he had originally wanted Siegfried Sassoon to write the Foreword for the book , but he was too ill . It also tells of his post-war struggles with his wartime memories and how writing the book was cathartic . Just to add that the new edition also contains photographs , some of the author both before , during and after the war. Another very good read is An Artillery Officer in the First World War by Colonel R. Macleod, DSO, MC, RFA. Macleod served with 80 Bty, RFA, V Bty, RHA, the RFC, and A/241 Bty, RFA during the Great War. My copy is a mimeographed copy of 244 pages with card covers. The only other copy I have seen is at the Imperial War Museum. I have the same copy of this book An Artillery Officer in the First World War, it has same card cover with green spine binding tape, a typed white title label, a fascinating read.
