Beselare Posted 24 November , 2013 Share Posted 24 November , 2013 In the service record of Pte. Michael Norton, 3/5th Cheshire Regt., it states on his attestation paper that he was "Previously with the V.B.C.R from 1900 to 1906." I have looked up several websites for military abbreviations but cannot find VBCR anywhere. Does anyone know what it means? Bob

Beselare Posted 24 November , 2013 Author Share Posted 24 November , 2013 Hello Sepoy - that response just took 12 minutes. What a great War Forum this is. Many thanks Bob
Sepoy Posted 24 November , 2013 Share Posted 24 November , 2013 My pleasure I have also had a quick look to see if Michael served during the Anglo Boer War 1899 - 1902 but I cannot see that a M Norton received the Queen's South Africa Medal. There was a C Norton who served with the 3rd Volunteer Company, 2nd Battalion, Cheshire Regiment. Sepoy
Beselare Posted 25 November , 2013 Author Share Posted 25 November , 2013 Hello again Sepoy Michael was one of seven brothers who all served in the war and all survived (David and Donald were twins). The only one who was in South Africa was CSM Joseph Norton, DCM. Bob
