Chris_Baker Posted 7 November , 2002 Share Posted 7 November , 2002 Posted on behalf of John Gilder I joined the WFA to try and assist my researches into my grandfather and two great uncles all of whom were in uniform in 1914. The main problem in terms of research seems to be that they survived! The elder of my great uncles fought under an alias having already done his 12 years in the Grenadiers and emigrated in 1907. My grandfather left the 5th Dragoon Guards in 1910 as a corporal and went to work for the LCC. Our next confirmed sighting is as a Sergeant at Sandhurst and/or Aldershot in 1916. My late father remembered he was a senior instructor in the rough riding school and welterweight boxing champion of the Army. He certainly won the Lloyd-Roberts medal in 1916, I have it. It is the intervening period which I want to know about. His record of service, if it survived the bombing in 1940, is being held at Hayes pending a 'G' edition in the PRO but, is their any source information available on "Training Command"?
