John_Hartley Posted 19 November , 2013 Share Posted 19 November , 2013 Recently been looking at Cheshire Regiment SWB records. Quite a number have entries for discharge unit as "WCLC ex Cheshire Regiment". Any idea what the WCLC means - at a guess "Western Command something"? John_Hartley Posted 19 November , 2013 Author Share Posted 19 November , 2013 Of course! Must mean that they'd transferred to the Labour Corps after serving with the Cheshires. Thanks, Ady.
Phil Evans Posted 19 November , 2013 Share Posted 19 November , 2013 John, According to "No Labour, No Battle", WCLC was based at Park Hall Camp, Oswestry until November 1918, when it moved to Prees Heath. There is also a list of overseas companies that were associated with it (June 1917) and amongst them are those that were formed from the 18th - 22nd (Labour) Battalions of the Cheshires, (56 Coy to 65 Coy).
