Trebrys Posted 15 November , 2013 Share Posted 15 November , 2013 Dear all, Would anyone have the exact location of the Soden Redoubt below Serre in January 1917 at all? I take it that it is the same place as the Feste Soden. Many thanks, Trebrys.
bmac Posted 16 November , 2013 Share Posted 16 November , 2013 If you look at this map you will see Feste Soden towards the bottom centre just below Ten Tree Alley (just above 121 R.). It lies between Serre Trench (not named on the map) and Munich Trench. Named after the commander of the 26. Reserve Division that occupied the sector from autumn 1914 onwards. Jack Sheldon Posted 26 November , 2013 Share Posted 26 November , 2013 It looks distinctly like 1 July 1916. Jack
bmac Posted 26 November , 2013 Share Posted 26 November , 2013 It is the 1st July 1916 map from the British Official History.
BelgianExile Posted 28 November , 2013 Share Posted 28 November , 2013 I take it that it is the same place as the Feste Soden. They are one and the same - it was named after Generalleutenant Freiherr von Soden, the divisional commander of 26th Reserve Division. I've got a scan of a german map of the area on my home computer - I'll overlay it onto google maps this evening and post the exact location (if no one beats me to it!).
