Chris,

I am envious of your USMC uniforms, they look great! Are any of them private purchase by chance?

Thanks for sharing,

Mike

They do not have standard tags or labels in Mike so I am not sure, they could be. (BTW just one set - tunic and pants)

It is possible (likely?) that they are post war, also possible that they are costume pieces but if they are they are very old and as far as I can tell - buttons aside - accurate.

It has been a while since I have posted any uniforms, so I figured that I would catch up with a few that I picked up a couple of weekends ago.

First up is a M1917 wool coat to an ordnance sergeant in the 78th Division. It has USNA (National Army) and Ordnance collar disks as well as 2 overseas service chevrons and a Honorable Discharge chevron. Like many uniforms, this one is not named. It is however a nice example of a tailor made uniform. The buttons do not have any markings in the back and the lining is sewn in at the bottom.

Thanks for looking,

Mike

Next is a 1st Army Engineers uniform to a railway engineer. It has US 21 and Engineer disks and which would be for the 21st Railway Engineers (Narrow Gauge). It also is not named, but has a great 1st Army patch and a numbered disk, which is always a plus. It also features 2 overseas chevrons and a honorable discharge chevron on the left and an engineers Private First Class on the right.

Chris,

Those are great. I have never seen an American Legion uniform like that before, quite interesting.

I have a couple more I will share sometime this week, one of which is a 33rd Division.

Thanks for adding these.

Here is another recent addition I have made. Here is a 33rd Division uniform for a guy that served in the 108th Engineers. Unfortunately, I only have his initials and no full name, so tracking him may be rather difficult. This uniform has an Engineer Private First Class rank, Victory Medal with France clasp, and 3 overseas service chevrons along with the 33rd Division patch.

Thanks,

Mike

Some beautiful photos guys. I'm new to this forum. I'm glad to see I'm not the only ww1 US collector haha. Very few collect ww1 US items here in the uk which is great as a buyer. I have 37 US great war uniforms so far and not one of them is alike. Neither in colour, material or manufacture. So different to my British ww1 tunics were they're all pretty much identical other than the name of the manufacturer on the paper label.

Good work guys.

Thank you. Feel free to add some of your US WWI uniforms to this thread. It would be great to see what you have.

Thanks,

You have to start with the More Reply Options button at the bottom. Once there you type what you want and then click the choose files button at the bottom. It then will have a small image of the photo you selected and then you click Add to Post. If the bar below is red, then you will need to resize the image to something more manageable. Here is a link to a resizer that I use. Just choose the dimensions and then the quality after you select the image and click Resize. It will take a few moments and then download your resized image.

Here we have what i would consider my favourite tunic simply because of the name of the guy who it belonged to. Sgt William Kaiser!! Im sure he had a lot of fun with that name at the time haha. He was originaly in company K 47 inf regt then transfered to company K 53 inf regt. I have a few photos of the guy in his training and some paperwork and medals. If I get a chance Ill dig them out later and put them on the site.

And here is his name and details inside the lining of the model 1912 tunic. I also have his breeches and overseas cap again named to him.

Here we have another model 1912 tunic to a baker with the 346 artillery with Port of Enbarcation New York patch. Sadly un-named.

Here we have another Model 1912 tunic to an artillery man in the USNG in another division that I cannot identify (Im not very good at this haha). The division patch is beautifully made from a mixture of wool and silk. Probably French made I pressume??post-123695-0-92584600-1463821203_thumb.post-123695-0-74369800-1463821223_thumb.

Ive just realised that I should have taken a close up of the patch. Its red over white over blue bars within a khaki wool circle.

A model 1917 tunic badged to a cavalry man in the 3rd Army. Again sadly un-named. Ive included this tunic as it is by far the worst fabric I have in all of my ww1 uniform collection (and that saying something when its worse than my imperial russian, italian and austrian uniforms haha). It is so rough and itchy. I imagine horrendous to wear.

This beautifully made tunic belonged to Cpt Hudson (Lt at the time of the war) who flew with the 27th Aero Sqn. He had 6 victories (of which 5 were shared apparently). After the war I believe he flew in one of the South American fledgling airforces?? I should really do more research on him as Im sure he was a character.

This tunic is French made along with his matching breeches and side cap (RFC style). All of the buttons and insginia are french made aswell.

I will be honest, I had to add the silver wings myself as they were missing when I bought the uniform from an 'old boy' in France. The black wool backing was present and there was a lot of old dried verdigree where the original wings had been however I couldn't leave the space blank haha. Im unsure whether the wings are original ww1 vintage that I have added as four dealers have all given different opinions (though a jeweller said they're sterling silver stamped and of the period???). All i know is that I paid £15 for them at a carboot/yard sale :-)

This sounds like the General Headquarters patch.

The other patch (circle within a square) is a new one to me. 47th Infantry were part of the 4th Division, and the 53rd part of the 6th Division and this is neither of the standard patches.

The closest I can think of is I Corps, both 4th and 6th Infantry Divisions were part of I Corps at some point during the war. The standard I Corps badge is black/white/black concentric circles so this is only vaguely similar. How is the patch constructed? Is it a black silk rectangle with an embroidered circle or is it printed?

Some great tunics here!

re pic: you are posting these as png files which seem rather large files even at low resolution (yours are 96dpi) . jpg offer much higher compression - so here is your image converted and slightly resized -- this file is only 13.4 kb as opposed to the 225kb of the original.

Edit: an example similar to yours is shown HERE (2B) and identified as I corps.

That's great Chris thanks for the information to the patches. I'll have a look at the pics and see how I can change them. I'm not very computer savy though haha.

Here we have an unusual ww1 US unifrom in the fact that it was made for a child. The child, V.B. Wilton attended the Page Military Academy at the end of the great war. I would say that it would probably fit a 5/6 year old child?? The meritous medal states on the rear that the Page Military Academy (Los Angeles) was a 'big school for little boys'.

I bought this from ebay for $16.50!!! tunic, trousers and puttees all exact scaled down replicas of there full size counter parts. I was the only person who bid on it which was a surprise as a canadian officers tunic, scaled down for a child of a similar age sold for nearly £700 in the same week on ebay. Very odd haha.

Thank you for sharing these great uniforms you have. I will say, I am envious of your child's uniform. I have a couple of photos in my collection of kids in military like outfits. As for your mystery patch, I have to agree with Chris. I think it is a 1st Corps patch and it wasn't trimmed down to the circle we are used to seeing. And you cook's chevron is just excellent and not very commonly seen. Usually you find the plain private first class or sergeant, but never this one.

Thanks again for sharing,

Mike
