eairicbloodaxe Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 Is the expert quoted near the bottom of this article our very own Mr Broomfield? Obviously he's the Beebs go-to Pachyderm Professional, in addition to his other WW1 talents... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-24745705 Regards Ian
Sepoy Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 Mr Broomfield certainly gets about a bit. What struck me in the article was the following commentGlow worms - used in WW1 as an aid for map reading I have never heard of this before. How were the little beasties carried around and used??? My only experience of glow worms was in a cave in New Zealand 30 years ago and I dont think I could have read a map using their light..... Sepoy
Steven Broomfield Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 Out of interest, this is also the subject of another thread. I'm that famous.
John_Hartley Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 this is also the subject of another thread. Blimey. Broomers is a BOGOF.
Stoppage Drill Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 Grrr - I've been asked to repaint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, and not a mention of it on GWF . . .
eairicbloodaxe Posted 11 November , 2013 Author Posted 11 November , 2013 Duplicate threads? Great minds think alike... But of course, fools seldom differ. I did do a search first, but mine had keywords in it... t'other didn't. (Sorry - Mods feel free to merge as desired.) Regards Ian
ianw Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 That the problem with the BBC and other media, once they find someone with that elusive quality of ****ability, they are on all the time. But never dreamed his expertise extended to Dumbo in the RGA. Be careful of over-exposure , Broomers - particularly of those knees - he'll be striding across sundry moors soon with Bradbury and then baking things in marquees with elephants grazing peacefully without.
NigelS Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 Be careful of over-exposure , Broomers - particularly of those knees - he'll be striding across sundry moors soon with Bradbury and then baking things in marquees with elephants grazing peacefully without. Not to mention hob-nobbing in blizzards with that well known father & son team of historians , & 'connecting' with Victoria Coren-Mitchell... NigelS
Steven Broomfield Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 Julia Bradbury AND Victoria Coren-Mitchell. I'm off for a lie-down. I may be some time.
stevem49 Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 Blimey. Broomers is a BOGOF. Grammar please - Broomers should Bogof. He be getting everywhere these days. Have to flog him an unsigned copy of me book
DaveBrigg Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 Just spotted Mr Broomfield adding his expertise to the BBC news page about animals in the Great War. I don't suppose you get many elephants in for treatment nowadays...
NigelS Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 Out of interest, this is also the subject of another thread. I'm that famous. Now three threads and counting... Guinness record attempt in the offing? NigelS

Roy Evans Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 Now three threads and counting... Guinness record attempt in the offing? NigelS I've just merged two and now there's another one? Roy

Steven Broomfield Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 Well having counted the two minutes' silence in Church yesterday and at work today, I am an elephant expert: "1 elephant, 2 elephant, 3 elephant ... 119 elephant, 120 elephant"

Scalyback Posted 11 November , 2013 Posted 11 November , 2013 Dogs to search for mines? You need to use a ba-boom! (Hat,coat, taxi) Now if a question posed about elephant cavalry, I assume Mr B is the 1st choice? Well done Mr B
