Indian Army List 1921 download

The Indian Army List 1921 is available to download as a free but large pdf file from the FamiySearch Library.

I have not downloaded it myself, so do not know if there are any problems/restrictions associated with the download

https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/1931667?availability=Logan%20Utah%20FamilySearch%20Library

If this link "times out", search the FamilySearch Library catalogue https://familysearch.org/catalog-search

This website has maintenance done in the middle of the night Utah time, when it may be unavailable, or perhaps partially available . (Utah time is UK time (GMT) less seven hours). If you have problems accessing the link, try at another time.

The Indian Army Lists for 1915 and 1922 are possibly available on Google Books to those in North America and some other countries, but are not generally available due to copyright reasons

Cheers

Maureen

I was delighted to read your post as my 1919 Indian Army List is literally falling apart. Accordingly as soon as I got home from my shift, I started downloading it - since then I have had a meal followed by a hour long snooze and it still has not downloaded. It is certainly doing something but what, who can tell.

I will up date this post if it does download.

I also cannot view or download this item, having made multiple attempts over some time.

I have sent a message to www.familysearch.org pointing out the problem and asking for assistance.

I had no problem downloading it but what I downloaded was unreadable.

I just downloaded this file without any problems, it took about five minutes (99 MB). I am also able to read it without any problems, but note the information button on the download says it requires an Adobe Acrobat reader.

I have an iMac and downloaded the file using Safari.

I read historical books online from a number of different websites. I have only had the iMac a couple of months, and I am now very aware that what you can access depends very much on your browser and probably your computer. There are still some formats I can't access. After a lot of time and confusion on my part, I discovered there was one feature on the Digital Library of India website, which in the past I have used quite a bit, which could only be accessed using Internet Explorer. Somewhat to my surprise, this aspect has recently been fixed up on the DLI, following my request.

Noel, I hope FamilySearch are able to assist you.

Cheers

Folks,

As some one with a keen interest in the Indian Army I went straight to down loading this.

It did take quite a while but I did end up with a good quality pdf which I could read at the end of it.

Hopefully I now have it saved my hard drive.

Thanks for posting about this.

I forgot to add that I did manage to download this list the following day.

I am also very grateful that Maureen drew this to our attention.

It is extremely useful

It's good to know that people are able to download the 1921 Indian Army List.

The following will probably not be of benefit to many, but is posted for information.

For those who have access to the pay site, the “Military Archive”, see the Forum thread

The Indian Army List October 1919 is available, as part of "The Rolls" subscription.

http://www.militaryarchive.co.uk/the-rolls/sources.html

Note that there is a Naval and Military Press four volume reprint available for the 1919 Indian Army List (January and July issues)

http://www.naval-military-press.com/indian-army-list-1919.html

For information about online editions for other years around the Great War period, generally on other pay websites, or restarted access, probably only available to those in North America, see the FIBIS Fibiwiki page "Directories online", section "Army Lists". Online Lists up to c 1870 are readily available

Maureen,

On small correction, the N&MP reprint is of the January 1919 IAL only. They have not reprinted the July 1919 IAL as well (I wish!)

It really is four volumes for one IAL! (It runs to over 2600 pages and is a bit bigger than the 1921 IAL by when things had calmed down a bit.)

@rolt968 this is likely to be of interest, in respect of the Overseas Army element of the census of 19 June 1921.

Page XXV is the first of three pages of an alphabetical list of British infantry regiments in India and their respective station.
