Phil Wood Posted 5 November , 2013 Share Posted 5 November , 2013 I am researching the short life of Morton Robert Bridges Liddle, Acting Lieutenant on board HMS Tornado when she sank in 1917. I am particularly interests in a period of 5 years from 1908 to 1913 when his service record has him at a 'training establishment'. He was aged 12 at the beginning of this period. In Jan 1913, aged 17, he was appointed as a Midshipman on HMS Natal. I am guessing that this was a shore based training establishment - a Navy school of some sort? Any ideas? Phil Wood Posted 6 November , 2013 Author Share Posted 6 November , 2013 Interesting site - some great postcards of Cromarty. But the section on 'Why did it happen?' needs some work! Another of the names on Newbury War Memorial, Walter Giles, went down with the Natal. He was a 16 year-old ship's boy.
