A relative has a trio relating to a family member who i believe from the NA site served with the RGA, can anyone add any info from his number etc that may lead to which battery he may have served with or any info or leads at all, anything appreciated and will be passed on to the family, Geoff

That 6-figure number falls within the 1917 Territorial Force number range for either the Staffordshire Heavy Battery RGA or 2/1st North Midland Heavy Battery RGA (TF).

Steve, thanks for the info, he was from Stoke on Trent so would make sense i also think that he has another index card for his 15 star with the number 483 so i presume he may have been re-numbered in 1917 ???

Hi Geoff,

Yes, that sounds about right. As I understand it, the full title for the Staffs Heavy Battery was 1/1st North Midland (Staffordshire) Heavy Battery; so, either way your chap would have been either in the first (most likely) or second line unit of the North Midland Heavy Battery RGA (TF). Originally the 1/1st North Midland (Staffordshire) Heavy Battery went out to France as part of 46th (North Midland) Division on 28th February 1915 and the 2/1st arrived in France on 28th May 1916 - see here and here.

Cheers

Steve
