Charles William Scriven

Remembering today my Gt Gt Uncle Sergeant Charles William Scriven “C” Company, 2^nd Battalion, Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire Regiment). Died of Wounds, on the 28^th October 1915 aged 28. Buried at Chocques Military Cemetery Plot I. G. 87.

Charles was born to Edwin and Ann Scriven a resident of Minty, Wiltshire in 1887, he later moved with his parents and 5 siblings to Hullavington (His younger brother Arthur fought with the AIF and survived the war and went on to become my Great Grandfather).

Charles and was a pre-war regular (No 7180 2^nd Battalion Wiltshire Regiment) having attested on the 4^th January 1905. He married Mary Ann Tull in Pembroke on the 20^th November 1907. He was transferred to the army reserves on the 23^rd June 1911and was recalled to his regiment on the 5^th August 1914, he was later discharged on the 28^th November 1914, as no longer physically fit for war service.

He then re-enlisted and was sent to France on the 21^st April 1915 and later fought at the battle of Loos, due to the high number of casualties suffered by the battalion the war diary does not state where or when he was injured.
