roypaule Posted 26 October , 2013 Share Posted 26 October , 2013 Hi All, I've seen a bi-lingual medal named to a Sapper and after the name the inscription MTC. It was stated that MTC stands for Miscellaneous Tradsmens Company. I believe that the medal, being bi-lingual is South African-but I have not encountered a company named Miscellaneous Tradsmens Company. Could someone tell be something about this company? Thank you in advance kind regards, Roy
Ron Clifton Posted 27 October , 2013 Share Posted 27 October , 2013 Hello Roy Are you sure it doesn't refer to the (South African) Motor Transport Corps? I would expect a Misc Trades Company to be part of a larger corps such as the RE or ASC, or their SA equivalents, and it would be one of those abbreviations which would appear on the medal.. Jim Strawbridge Posted 29 October , 2013 Share Posted 29 October , 2013 M.T.C. is a well known abbreviation on SA victory and BWM medals and does relate to the Miscellaneous Tradsmens Company.
Rory Reynolds Posted 29 October , 2013 Share Posted 29 October , 2013 Hi Roy There is a write up about the MTC at the back of John Buchan's book History of the South African Forces in France. It is quite detailed and should tell you all you need to know. If you don't have it then send me a message with your e-mail address and I'll try and scan and e-mail the pages to you.
