Jim Hastings Posted 25 October , 2013 Posted 25 October , 2013 I have Ancestry but cannot seem to track down the census return for 2nd Sussex while they were in Curragh Camp in southern Ireland (1910-1912), is it actually available on FMP or others? Appreciate any guidance in this please Many thanks Jim
archangel9 Posted 25 October , 2013 Posted 25 October , 2013 Jim, Should be able to find it here for free - http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ John
kildaremark Posted 25 October , 2013 Posted 25 October , 2013 Jim, Here is the link to the Curragh: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kildare/Kildare/Curragh_Military_Camp/ I think you will just have to keep trying pages to get the correct one. For example here is the 20th Hussars http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002583947/ Many of them will only have the initials which makes it difficult. Mark
Jim Hastings Posted 25 October , 2013 Author Posted 25 October , 2013 Wow John and Mark that was quick, thank you so much, appreciate your swift replies, now to find the two fellas I'm after Many, many thanks and a good weekend to you both Jim
kildaremark Posted 25 October , 2013 Posted 25 October , 2013 Here's some of them: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002583853/ If you type in "sussex" in the occupation field on the Irish census site you will find a number of them living in married quarters or rened accommodation around the Curragh. Mark
Jim Hastings Posted 25 October , 2013 Author Posted 25 October , 2013 Cracking Mark, I was putting 'soldier' 'army' etc in occupation and going around the houses, will go for 'sussex' now Thanks again Jim
David_Underdown Posted 28 October , 2013 Posted 28 October , 2013 The occupation shown for soldiers on the Irish census normally seems to be their occupation before joining up!
