museumtom Posted 25 October , 2013 Share Posted 25 October , 2013 'Morning all. I am in dire need of your help. I am working on "Irish in the Great War, the Newspaper Stories" and need three photographs, Wounded in an Irish hospital, preferably in Dublin. Wounded men in Dublin and a recruiting photograph preferably in Dublin. Full due credit will be given to anyone who can help me. I can find lots of photographs on microfiche of the newspapers but the quality is terrible. I need good quality photographs. If your relative is in the photograph then he will be remembered in these books. Please P.M. me if you can help. You have never let me down before, and I hope I might be as lucky again this time. Thanking you all most sincerely in advance. Kind regards. Tom.
jdoyle Posted 25 October , 2013 Share Posted 25 October , 2013 Tom, not convinced that all these are good enough for what you want but as a starter : a recruits rather than recruiting photo I like from an old thread on the GWF There is a nice photo of the recruiting office in Brunswick St from the hotel that now occupies the site plus similar photo from other sites : http://www.trinitycapitalhotel.com/cmsFiles/history_booklet.pdf http://thebignote.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/SCN_0010.jpg http://michael7000.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/great-brunswick-st.jpg Having problems uploading a photo of a tram with recruiting adverts but till try again later. The following website has a small photo of wounded soldiers in hospital and it might be worth asking if they have a better copy available for use. http://cdschc.ie/history/ Johnny
museumtom Posted 25 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 25 October , 2013 Thank you Johnny, I would need to contact the source to get permission for suitable pictures. You are a great help to me and I appreciate it very much. Kind regards. Tom.
depaor01 Posted 25 October , 2013 Share Posted 25 October , 2013 I don't mean to hijack your thread Tom, but I love Giuseppe Gervi's Fried Fish and Chips to the left of the recruitment office. Earliest known chippy? Great photos Johnny, of a seldom- photographed street. Dave.

jdoyle Posted 25 October , 2013 Share Posted 25 October , 2013 in The Irish Civil War by Tim Pat Coogan and George Morrison there is a very good quality photo of the a tram with the recruiting adverts. On the following page is a convoy of cars with a banner Fight For Ireland which is given as a recuitment drive for the Royal Dublin Fusiliers. I don't have electronic copies of these unfortunately. Another recruitment drive if you'll pardon the pun https://stillslibrary.rte.ie/indexplus/image/0510/056.html Johnny
