Remembered Today:

2nd Bn Norfolk Regiment

Hello - can anyone tell me where in India the 2nd Bn Norfolk Regt was based at the outbreak of the War? It was part of the 18th Indian Bde, 6th (Poona) Div but I am interested on finding out exactly where it was stationed at the outbreak. Thanks in advance. (The Regimental website summarises the Great War in less than 100 words)

Martin,

According to Mark Conrad's site which lists the locations for all British units in July (1914), 2nd Norfolks were located at Belgaum - http://marksrussianmilitaryhistory.info/BRIT14.html . I also have a note showing them in 18th Indian Infy. Bde. but not sure where I picked that up so could be mistaken.

Many thanks.

As an Aside, James' "British Regiments 1914" has "4.8.14 Belgium" which is why I asked. Clearly a spelling mistake.

SPOF - Many thanks....

By any chance have you photographed these pages for the Line Infantry? I am intrigued by the 3rd Bn data as (separately) I have been doing some research on the Special Reserve. I note that they show 'establishment' of 98 all ranks.
