Gareth Davies Posted 21 October , 2013 Share Posted 21 October , 2013 One of my clerks is trying to find out about her grandfather in law, James Ferris. They have been up to the NA where they got hold of his MIC (which I haven't seen yet) and have found out the following: James Ferris, Larne, Antrim, born 11 Jun 1891. 1052, North Irish Horse. Transfered to the RFC on 25 Oct 16 and his new number was 50939 He reached the rank of Sgt but we don't know if that was in the NIH or RFC or both He was transfered to Class G reserve on 4 Mar 19. If any forum Pals have any more information on James it would be most gratefully received.
BillyH Posted 22 October , 2013 Share Posted 22 October , 2013 Gareth, It looks like his RAF service record is available on-line : http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=D8259606 (Hope the link works) - only £3.36 - a bargain! sotonmate Posted 22 October , 2013 Share Posted 22 October , 2013 MIC shows landed in France on 1.5.1915. The NIHorse page on the LLT shows a diverse deployment of it' s squadrons,so you have some sorting out to do !
Gareth Davies Posted 22 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 22 October , 2013 Thanks Soton. We are guessing he was in A Sqn as Larne is closer to Belfast than the other Sqn locations.

MacM Posted 14 November , 2013 Share Posted 14 November , 2013 Gareth He went to France with D Squadron of the North Irish Horse. You can find its diary here http://www.northirishhorse.com.au/NIH/War%20diaries/War%20diaries%20-%20D%20Squadron.html The 1052 service number would put his enlistment date between 28 and 31 August 1914.
