Chris_Baker Posted 20 October , 2013 Share Posted 20 October , 2013 I have been asked whether a photograph exists of Mabel Lethbridge OBE, munitions worker at No 7 Shell Filling Factory at Hayes. I understand she published an autobiographical work, "Fortune Grass". Did this include a photograph? Or perhaps she appeared at some point in a local newspaper? All other information on this matter welcomed.
Sue Light Posted 20 October , 2013 Share Posted 20 October , 2013 Chris I have one of her - she is among those which are part of the IWM collection and I have downloaded them and noted them in a spreadsheet. If you email me I'll send it - there is also text on the reverse Sue light.sueATgmail.com Not an OBE by the way, but a Medal of the Order of the British Empire
Chris_Baker Posted 21 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 21 October , 2013 Thank you very much, Sue. I'll be in touch. Do keep them coming. My contact would be interested to know of any other photos, too, particularly from the Great War era. PS Sue: thanks for the correction regarding her decoration. Archive@Habsgirls Posted 14 March , 2014 Share Posted 14 March , 2014 Dear Sue I would also be interested in a photograph of Mabel as she is a former pupil of our school and we are including her in our World War I project. With thanks Judith
paulgranger Posted 14 March , 2014 Share Posted 14 March , 2014 Quite a bit of Mabel's interview for The Great War figured in tonight's BBC programme.
Archive@Habsgirls Posted 15 March , 2014 Share Posted 15 March , 2014 Hi Paul I discovered that you can see a 16 minute version of her interview on IPlayer in which she talks about her accident. I am going to show the girls at our World War I meeting on Monday. She was also the subject of a 'This is Your Life' in November 1962. I am going to try contacting the BBC archive.
