ralphjd Posted 16 October , 2013 Share Posted 16 October , 2013 Para 392 XVI Kings Regs = " No longer physically fit for war service - At home, Abroad and men sent home for discharge" Your man has the letter "S" next to his entry = s = sickness. maxthecat Posted 17 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 17 October , 2013 Many thanks for your quick response, rjaydee. All seems to fit as there was talk of him having suffered from poison gas attack. He died some 10 years after discharge following long term nursing at home. Is it possible to find out where this gassing would have occurred?
ralphjd Posted 17 October , 2013 Share Posted 17 October , 2013 Pretty nigh impossible I would imagine to site where he suffered from the gas attack, cannot help you there. Ralph.
sotonmate Posted 18 October , 2013 Share Posted 18 October , 2013 No service or pension record apparent on Ancestry UK. No record in PIN26 on the NA Discovery database either. A sufferer from gas poisoning would have been expected to have a pension record somewhere. You will need to discover which MGC unit he served in to get a line on where he was exposed to gas. Anytime 1917-1918 there were frequent actions with gas shells from 3rd Ypres to the German Spring Offensive of 1918 and beyond.
maxthecat Posted 18 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 18 October , 2013 Very many thanks to you both for taking the time to investigate and advise me on this. Looks like a bit of a no-no, I'm afraid. Kind regards, Bob.
