Hi All,

I have been trying to research my Great Grandfather S/9456 Sgt. Alexander Clark Bryson of 6 Platoon, B Company, 2nd Battalion, A&SH. He was awarded the Military Medal and Mentioned In Dispatches for actions which took place on the 23rd September 1918.

What I know so far:
2nd Battalion, A&SH attacked at 0930hrs from the area of Limerick Post towards the Hindenburg line. They were soon counter-attacked in force. They held out until approx 1700hrs when they ran out of ammo and were forced to retire. The award would be for skillful handling of his men during repeated counter-attacks. It is likely all his officers were wounded or killed.

Questions:
Does anyone have any further information on this attack please?

I have checked the local cemeteries and have only found one officer KIA for this day. Lieutenant William Wood McLean MC, 2nd Argyll And Sutherland Highlanders. Can anyone assist with confirming Lt. Wood's Company please? The reason I ask is because, I will be visiting the battlefield in two weeks and would like to identify members of B Coy and pay my respects.

Regards

Allan Clark Bryson.
