Hedley,

Beginning of September my (Flemish) paper wrote :

8 July : stage from (near) Dunkirk to (near) Lille.

9 July : stage from (near) Lille to Ypres. But that would be a team time trial.

But : not official yet.

Is that repeated or confirmed in the French papers ?

Today a cycling website revealed lunchtime that Stage 5 of 2014 Tour would start at Ypres as revealed on Belgian radio by former prime minister Yves Leterme, a native of Ypres and member of the local organising committee. It also mentioned that the stage would also include a cobbled section which Chris Froome (this years winner) is a bit apprehensive about if true. Next week the tour route will be announced.

cycling website article

One appended comment is from "Blackbeard" wondering why the war needs to be commemorated; not sure if he's getting confused with "celebrated"?

Generally I find a few of the cycling-specific comments made on this website a bit inane - I'm not sure whether a couple of guys are idiots or trolls. (Perhaps a troll is an idiot, anyway?)
