moggs Posted 14 October , 2013 Share Posted 14 October , 2013 Hello everyone, Writing just to say how lucky we are in Australia with finding records even with limited and sometimes erroneous information. I was surfing this afternoon - always on the lookout for a bugle which has links to the 14th Battalion AIF - when I came across this link http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-equip/musical.htm There was a photo of the HQ band which played at the first Anzac Day commemoration in Egypt and listed with the photo was an R. Stevens 14th Battalion. Always intrigued to follow up on 14th men I had to wait until I was home before I could do so. Here, I found in Jacka's Mob there was no R Stevens but there were two R Stephens. The first one I checked on the NAA was the jackpot. In Robert Stephens records it states very clearly he was transferred to the Headquarter's band in Egypt after recovering from a shrapnel wound to the thigh in August 1915. He later transferred to the Machine Gun section and then onto the 59th Battalion before returning to Australia in early 1919. I had fun with this one Jonathan
