i have a problem.

I guess some pals will tell me it's common knowledge, but I have to ask.

I just finished re-reading Robert Grave's Goodbye to all that, but tried to read with a very critical mind.

On page 140, he sais he is in billets in château de Montmorency, billets next to Béthune. Further more, in a letter in september 1965, he remembers his night at that castle and the fact that the next day, some of his colleagues were killed in the battle of Loos.

So while now putting my notes to paper (euh... computer) I decided to take a look at said castle.

Now here's the thing. Looking for Château de Montmorency, there are only two in France: château de Beaumesnil, inhabited by the Montmorency's for quite a while and the castles at the city of Montmorency... both are over 300km away from Béthune. There is a city called Montmorency - Beaufort, but that'a also quite far from Béthune

So question: is he mistaken with another castle?? did I miss the castle itself?? Or is it yet again one of Grave's way of making himself sounding interesting and selling books???

What to do with this info??

anybody can shed some light??

Thanks.

Good evening Maryline !

I Think you have no more problem...

Just type "caserne Montmorency à Béthune" on Google and you will find some pictures of your "chateau".

The building still exist today.
