BelgianExile Posted 8 October , 2013 Posted 8 October , 2013 Hi all, Can anyone point me in the direction of any involvement of the various Norfolk regiments in the 1916 actions? I've managed to get as far as the 18th (Eastern) Division being present on 1 July 1916, and getting as far as Montauban Alley, but am running out of steam. I'm asking because I live in Norwich and while I'm not researching anyone in particular, I'd like to get an overview of their contribution during this period to guide some further research. Also, are any of the regimental diaries available which cover this period? Thanks in advance, Damien
Colin W Taylor Posted 8 October , 2013 Posted 8 October , 2013 Damien I'd suggest looking up the regiment on the Long Long Trail website top left for a general idea of which division each battalion was with. For more detail getting hold of a copy of the regimental history (HISTORY OF THE NORFOLK REGIMENT 4th August 1914 to 31st December 1918 by R Loraine-Petre) will fill in plenty of gaps. You can order it through your local library or buy a reprinted copy for about £18 from Naval and Military Press. The war diaries will all be available from Kew but not all will be digitized so may require a visit to get a copy. http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/s/res?_aq=norfolk&_cr1=wo95&_ro=any&_advtxt=norfolk&_ps=60 Kind regards Colin
