Dear Forum Pals,

I am seeking information on Capt G C Carroll - who went out to France with D/84 Bde, RFA attached to 55th Infantry Brigade, 18th Division July 1915.

I have attempted to negotiate the maze of information within the London Gazette - with no joy! Neither can I locate a Medal Card for him.

I believe he may have spent some time in Peru prior to the outbreak of war.

Any information appreciated.

Do you by any chance mean Temporary Lieutenant/ Acting Major Gerald Leo Carroll of the RFA?

He went to France in July 1915. There are 2 addresses on his MIC, 15 Kildare Terrace, London W2 and c/o Messrs Duncan Fox & Co, Lima, Peru, S America.

His service file is at Kew under WO339/16794,file not digital though.

Also the 84 Brigade RFA War Diary is under WO95/2025/2,period 1Jul1915 to 31 Dec 1916,again not digital.

This unit will have another Diary (maybe 2) for later in the war but not in the same title as Army Brigades came into being.
