Remembered Today:

Rondo regiment

Researching my wifes family history I have reference to her grandfather on two certificates.

On one of his children's it has him as being in the Royal Fusiliers and on his marriage certificate a Private in 2/2nd Bn. Rondo regiment. can any of you wise military types tell me how this ties up?

Checked Chris'es excellent site but could find no reference.

Would appreciate any help.

Could it be that the name of the Regiment is written in a bad hand and that the R should read as L making the London Regt. a possibility?

I think you`ve got it, Dave. The full title would be 2/2nd (City of London) Bn (Royal Fusiliers), the London Regt. Served in Gallipoli and France. Phil B

Thank you chaps, I have got the magnifying glass out and the L for London looks like an "R" and the n at the end is very faded I would say you have it exactly right. The only consulation is my wife read it as Rondo as well!

Many thanks for youe suggestions.
