Timbob1001 Posted 7 October , 2013 Share Posted 7 October , 2013 Hi all Just had a quick trawl of the site and no luck finding an answer to the above... I have just been shown a copy belonging to a KIA SLI soldier whose family have been told the damage to it/suspicious old dark stain are due to it being carried on active service. I know the pay book was normally carried but.... Thanks Tim

CROONAERT Posted 7 October , 2013 Share Posted 7 October , 2013 There was no actual regulation stating that the Small Book should or shouldn't be carried on active service (though it often was). However, in January 1915, one was issued stating that ,upon active service, the Book should be retained by the officer I/c of records (ie. NOT carried on active service). This was not always adhered to of course. Dave

Keith Though nothing really relative to Tim's query in that thread, Keith (I know I banged on a bit about AB64's (Pay Books) in that thread, but there isn't really anything about the Soldier's Small Book (wills section apart) on there).
