Deerhunter Posted 6 October , 2013 Share Posted 6 October , 2013 As can be seen, this green-and-white patch is on the upper sleeve of a Trench Mortar WO's Service Dress tunic to the RWF. Can anyone identify the formation sign, please?
Deerhunter Posted 6 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 6 October , 2013 Here's a photo showing the remainder of the tunic. It has regimental buttons, three overseas service chevrons, and has been tailored with a stand collar and modified cuffs, having been chevroned. Grovetown Posted 7 October , 2013 Share Posted 7 October , 2013 Frustratingly, it's not recorded by Waring. On the upside though, it's definitely within the RWF 'spectrum' of battle patches. For instance, the 1/5th Bn had the same patch - but with black instead of green. Also, the 24th Bn patch was a green and white rectangle - but with the rectangle bisected horizontally, with the green on the top. Cheers, GT. Muerrisch Posted 7 October , 2013 Share Posted 7 October , 2013 Nice one, but am I blind or thick or both, in that I can see no rank badges?
Deerhunter Posted 7 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 7 October , 2013 There are holes on each cuff where the lugs of the crowns fit, the crowns themselves being absent.
Mike_H Posted 7 October , 2013 Share Posted 7 October , 2013 According to the IWM uniform questionnaires received from a survey of units in about 1919 the 24th Battalion RWF patch was as shown in the photo, a horizontal rectangle vertically bisected green & white. Adopted in France in June 1918. Mike
