David Seymour Posted 5 October , 2013 Posted 5 October , 2013 Does anyone have any photos of the memorial in St. Margaret's Church, Tanfield or of any other memorials in Tanfield? I am trying to establish if Able Seaman George William Askew was remembered in Tanfield. He died 4/6/1915. Many thanks for any help you can give. David
Old Owl Posted 5 October , 2013 Posted 5 October , 2013 Hi David, I have checked for you via the North East War Memorials Project and find that he is listed by name on the Brass Plaque in the church of St Margaret of Antioch, Tanfield. The site is fairly easy to search so if you Google 'North East War Memorials Project', then you can search the site yourself. There is a smallish photo of the plaque and a full list of all the names on the site. Hope this helps, Robert PS I have a BWM to Capt.T.D.Shafto, 2nd Bn Royal Fusiliers who was Kia at Gallipoli. There is a stained glass window to his memory in the church--the family lived at Beamish Hall.
