centurion Posted 3 October , 2013 Posted 3 October , 2013 Visiting one of the local 2nd hand emporia ( I was seeking a hat stand as one does) I spotted two WW1 period helmets - a Stahlhelm and a nice round "Brodie". Both in good condition but in both cases without any liner etc. I was tempted but constrained myself to purchasing some WW1 postcards (and a hat stand). not normally being in the market for helmets I wasn't sure if a fair price was being asked. What would other forum members expect to pay in such circumstances?
trenchtrotter Posted 3 October , 2013 Posted 3 October , 2013 Hello I am afraid that is a "how long is a piece of string" question. Without sight it would be hard to speculate. What condition were the shells? What was the remaining paint like? Was it original paint left? What pattern shell? M16 or 18? Re Brodie was it rimmed or rimless? What were they asking? £50 got me a rimmed Brodie, battle damaged, original paint and 8 th Buffs insignia / flashes still evident? That was at a fair. If a standard M 16 with good apple green paint then £150? Maybe more (fair and dealer price). Hope this helps and others may disagree! TT

Last year saw a dealer with a whole table full of M16 M17 etc all with liners, cheapest 650 euros, most expensive 1000€. The most expensive M16 I've personally bought (original liner and paint) was 190€ but that was about 4 years ago. John
trenchtrotter Posted 3 October , 2013 Posted 3 October , 2013 Re my last post I forgot to add the Brodie was shell only and not in brill condition.Re German helmets. I now firmly believe they have become overpriced. You see lots about at silly money and they simply seem not to sell? Surely a dealer would rather sell at a fair price than have lots on his table that simply remain unsold.TT

There was one who had a very overpriced Mills 36 on a gas check plate for over 2 years before someone actually paid his price. I asked him about 6 times if he would take an offer, but he never did. They simply don't negotiate, whereas most British dealers will. John
