Alan Riches Posted 2 October , 2013 Posted 2 October , 2013 Hello All, Could any kind soul out there with an interest in the East Lancashire Regiment give me an account of the 2nd Battalion's deeds at the Battle of Neuve Chapelle? The Battalion War Diary has not been digitised, and I live a long way from Kew. Nor have I been able to lay my hands on a copy of the regimental history. Searching the internet has produced one or two fragments, but I've not been able to find a coherent account. Thanks in anticipation, Alan
sotonmate Posted 2 October , 2013 Posted 2 October , 2013 A fragment from the Long Long Trail that you may not yet have seen: http://www.1914-1918.net/french_seventh_despatch.html
Gardenerbill Posted 3 October , 2013 Posted 3 October , 2013 Alan, The Lancashire regiments museum at Fulwood barracks Preston have a copy of the regimental history available to read, they may well have the war diary for 2nd battalion as well. My interest is in the 9th battalion and I have visited the museum many times to copy both the regimental history and the war diary of the 9th. Here is the link to their web site: http://www.lancashireinfantrymuseum.org.uk The volunteer staff are very helpful and friendly.
Alan Riches Posted 4 October , 2013 Author Posted 4 October , 2013 Hi Sotonmate and Mark, Thank you for your contributions. Unfortunately I live even further away from Preston than I do from Kew, so a visit to the Lancashire regiments museum is difficult. Still, you never know, one day... Alan
CROONAERT Posted 4 October , 2013 Posted 4 October , 2013 There're 5 pages in the regimental history covering the 2nd Battalion in this action. Give me a short while and I'll scan and post them for you (unless someone else can do it quicker) Dave.

Alan Riches Posted 7 October , 2013 Author Posted 7 October , 2013 Dave, Thank you very much for sending me the relevant pages from the East Lancashire Regiment History - they're exactly what I was looking for. Best wishes, Alan
