duarcain Posted 25 September , 2013 Posted 25 September , 2013 Hello, I am looking for more information on this soldier:- 23166 - West Riding Regiment 260084 - York and Lancaster Regiment 64527 - Yorkshire Regiment I searched the medal card list on the National Archives website and 'Charles W Taylor' returned 62 results. I am hoping that the man I am after did join a 'local' regiment as this would narrow things down a great deal. I also searched just for 'Charles Taylor' and this (not surprisingly) returned over 700 results. The only other information I can give is that he was... a) Born in 1894, Bradford, Yorkshire. He was a Master Barber by trade. c) In 1911 he was aged 17, was single and was living at home at 73 Back Tamworth Street, Tyersal, Bradford, Yorkshire. d) He survived the Great War and died in 1955, aged 61. Thanks.
sotonmate Posted 25 September , 2013 Posted 25 September , 2013 Hard to say the date of enlistment as the number to date sequence is erratic. A steady pattern might suggest around Jun 1915,when number 23000 enlisted in DOWWRR. No service record readily apparent.
duarcain Posted 26 September , 2013 Author Posted 26 September , 2013 Thanks for the replies. I know my man got married in 1915 but I don't think I'm going to be able to find much more about him. Regards Anthony
Kilner Posted 2 May Posted 2 May Hi, I think Charles may be my great grandfather. The address, dates and occupation fits from what my grandfather told my grandfather was Fred Taylor. I was told Charles died due to brain haemorhage.

Matlock1418 Posted 3 May Posted 3 May A new number sequence of 23166, 204391, 260084, 64527 [last] is offered by this pension index card Image thanks to WFA/Fold3 It rather looks like his military service may have come to an end 30.9.18 Under the 1918 Royal Warrant a Gratuity rather suggests the Minister of Pensions thought it was in the best interest of the soldier to get a lump sum for a minor unfitness [<20% disability, under Article 1(3)] rather than a pension [under Article 1(1)] - or because such unfitness not being attributable nor aggravated by military service and not due to serious negligence of misconduct of the discharged man [under Article 7(1)] I wonder if the address of : 2 St Hilda's Place, Cross Green Lane, Leeds, matches the family genealogy of the CWT in the OP ?? Chris Noble Posted 3 May Posted 3 May Hi, Leeds Absent Voters has Charles residing at this address in 1918. Recorded as No. 260084, 1/5th Yorks and Lancs. There is a surviving service record on FMP. Basically service is as follows: Attested, 10th December 1915 To Army Reserve Mobilized, 9th March 1917 90th Territorial Force Depot (Huddersfield), 14th March 1917 To the 4th (Reserve) Battalion, West Riding Regiment, 15th March 1917 (I presume when they were at Clipstone Camp) 1/5th West Riding Regiment, 15th June 1917 Transferred to 1/5th Yorks and Lancs, 29th June 1917 by Army Order 204 (1916) Transferred whilst on 'short' leave from France, 26th February 1918 and posted to the 94th Territorial Force Depot (Rotherham) There are some telegrams but they are difficult to decipher but possibly then posted to the 4th (Reserve) Yorks and Lancs? Transferred to 6th Yorkshire Regiment, 22nd July 1918 Discharged, as Matlock posted, 30th September 1918 Kind regards, Chris
