roughdiamond Posted 25 September , 2013 Posted 25 September , 2013 The above man was executed for Desertion 20/04/1917 http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/80172/FERGUSON,%20JOSEPH Oram list's his as "att RE". Oram also lists a man simply as "Ferguson" no forename or initial, but his Regt is listed as "1st Bn RSF", he was sentenced to Death for Desertion 07/10/1915, this was reduced to "10 years Penal Servitude". Anyone researched him and know if they are one and the same man? "Oram" = Gerald Oram "Death Sentences passed by Military Courts of the British Army 1914 - 1924" Cheers Sam
ralphjd Posted 25 September , 2013 Posted 25 September , 2013 Shot at Dawn by Julian Putkowski and Julian Sykes has a very good write up on this soldier. In my opinion the same man. Ralph.
roughdiamond Posted 25 September , 2013 Author Posted 25 September , 2013 Thanks Ray Oram has identified and noted 30 men executed for Desertion who had previous Death sentences suspended, I reckon Ferguson is 1 of another 9 executed who'd had an earlier Death sentence suspended that wasn't noted.
