WD61JG Posted 24 September , 2013 Share Posted 24 September , 2013 Just wondering if it was common for scotsmen to join English regiments from Scottish regiments, as in the case of my G-Grandfather Thomas McCall, who it appears left the 2nd Cameron Highlanders to join the 7th Royal Berkshire Regiment. What is particularly odd is that Thomas McCall did move to the UK but not until around 1936, so why would he move from a Scottish Reg to an English Regiment in the WW1? PS - Does it say 'Arrived' or 'Fined' at Inverness on the date 16.5.16??

stevem49 Posted 24 September , 2013 Share Posted 24 September , 2013 I think it says that he was 'attached to the 7th Berk's, which means that he would still be under the 2nd CH. Saying that men got sent to whichever unit needed them. I have a number of men loaned out to other regiments including Irish ones. (It was the British army and not, Scots, English etc) I also have a number of TF RE men from Scotland who ended up in 9th Sherwood Foresters.
