Colin W Taylor Posted 24 September , 2013 Posted 24 September , 2013 Dave 9th KOYLI were in the area of Beaumont Hamel on 15th August. The war diary states: 'At 8 am, the enemy opened a heavy bombardment, causing casualties in all companies. About midday A Coy rushed the German post, which was holding up the advance, under Stokes Mortar fire. The whole line now moved forward to a line west of Artillery Lane through R.1.c Central. C, D & B Coys occupied Artillery Lane from R.7.a.9.4 to R.7.a.8.7 with A Coy in Luminous Avenue in Q.13.b & R.7.a. Bn HQrs in Q.12.b.4.2. German snipers and MG fire was very heavy, east of Artillery Lane and the advance was checked.' Presumably he was originally a territorial force soldier having a six-digit number as he did. Kind regards Colin
