gerrymurray2010@live.com Posted 23 September , 2013 Posted 23 September , 2013 Hello Everyone; I may be on a completely hopeless mission with this enquiry but here goes; Can anyone advise if a document exists which lists the names and Unit history for 'Officers' killed in action during the Gallipoli campaign as I am attempting to find any information at all about two men in particular; Arthur Fitzgerald and Decourcey Wheeler Any advice or assistance would be greatly recieved. Regards Gerry
kenmorrison Posted 23 September , 2013 Posted 23 September , 2013 Any information on Rank, Regiment, date of death, etc? The only Arthur Fitzgerald on SDGW was a Sgt in Coldstreams. Is the second man's first name Decourcey? Is it double barreled?
sotonmate Posted 23 September , 2013 Posted 23 September , 2013 CWGC has no entries for these names for 1915 at Gallipoli.
Guest Posted 23 September , 2013 Posted 23 September , 2013 "To What End Did They Die? Officers Died at Gallipoli" by R W Walker published in 1985 covers this subject but interestingly neither are mentioned. MG Any more info on which units they were serving in? The only Wheeler mentioned is Major Augustus Henry Wheeler 1/6th Bn RWF KIA 10th Aug 1915. I have Officers Died in the Great War (Parts I and II) which is listed by unit. Any hints on which units might help you establish what you are after. MG
gerrymurray2010@live.com Posted 30 September , 2013 Author Posted 30 September , 2013 'Old Sweats' and 'MG', many thanks for your replies and sorry for the late response; will get back to you if I can find anything else to work on. Regards Gerry
Guest Posted 30 September , 2013 Posted 30 September , 2013 deCourcey Wheeler is mentioned on this site Click " deCourcy Wheeler, H.E. Rank; Captain. Reported active August 15, 1914. Born Robertstown. " Mike
Guest Posted 30 September , 2013 Posted 30 September , 2013 This might be a more likely candidate Click Eight MIC's on this page Click Mike
Guest Posted 30 September , 2013 Posted 30 September , 2013 www.nli.ie/1916/pdf/8.pdf There is a photograph of a Major de Courcy-Wheeler if you copy and paste the above into your transport bar (not sure if it will work as a link) Mike
