aradgick Posted 23 September , 2013 Share Posted 23 September , 2013 Arthur Hodge, who served in WWI as Arthur Muggeridge, joined the Royal Garrison Artillery before the war. His service number was 28378. Can anyone give me an idea of when he would have joined please? I've already unscrambled his convoluted family history, and the fact he died of pneumonia in 1915, without going overseas. Andrewr
Admin spof Posted 23 September , 2013 Admin Share Posted 23 September , 2013 Andrew Can you find him in the 1911 census? That'll help to narrow it down. Glen
SFayers Posted 23 September , 2013 Share Posted 23 September , 2013 I'd say around the first quarter of 1908 for that number - one or two other GWF members may be able to tie it down further for you. cheers Steve
aradgick Posted 23 September , 2013 Author Share Posted 23 September , 2013 Glen, In 1911, he was with 88 Company in Hong Kong. At the time of his death in February 1915, he was with No 2 Company, who I believe were occupied with Eastern Coast Defences, based at Sheerness in Kent. He is buried here in the UK. Steve - that's a good start, thanks. As he was born in 1888, that looks about right. Andrewr
kevinrowlinson Posted 23 September , 2013 Share Posted 23 September , 2013 His service records are available. Kevin
aradgick Posted 23 September , 2013 Author Share Posted 23 September , 2013 Kevin, Where did you find them - I've drawn a blank. There is a Pension Record for Arthur John Muggeridge, Royal Garrison Artillery, but it's not 'my' man (wrong service number and wrong place of birth) Andrewr
kevinrowlinson Posted 23 September , 2013 Share Posted 23 September , 2013 Just put the 28378 no. in Service records. You should spot him. Kevin
aradgick Posted 23 September , 2013 Author Share Posted 23 September , 2013 Thanks to Kevin for spotting the Service Record. It had been mis-transcribed as Muggindge. Steve - you were right, it was 19th February 1908 Andrewr
