Guest iow36 Posted 20 September , 2013 Posted 20 September , 2013 Can anyone help me with this Officers time in France. He entered France on the 14 January 1918 and before that he was with the East Riding RGA ( Territorial Force ) assigned to the North Eastern Coastal Defences. He joined the 2nd East Riding of Yorkshire RGA ( Volunteer ) Heavy Battery in 1905 and left in 1924 a Lt Col.
IPT Posted 20 September , 2013 Posted 20 September , 2013 He was mentioned in The Hull Daily Mail in July 1919 as being attached to 156 Siege Battery, if that's any help.
Coldstreamer Posted 22 September , 2013 Posted 22 September , 2013 IPT - do you have access to Hull papers to make a search ? I have a few Coldstreamers from there Thanks (and sorry for the hi-jack)
IPT Posted 22 September , 2013 Posted 22 September , 2013 Sorry, no. I just browsed the British Newspaper Archive, without a subscription.
sotonmate Posted 22 September , 2013 Posted 22 September , 2013 I36 The date of cessation of service means that there are no records in the public domain. They will be held by the Army Records in Glasgow and may be released to relatives on application and provision of evidence of family connection: http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/service_records.html
Guest iow36 Posted 23 September , 2013 Posted 23 September , 2013 Thanks everyone for your input. I have been able to glean some information from the Hull newspaper in particular confirming his MID which up till now has eluded me. His service record I may be able to source as only very recently I have tracked down a possible relative.
