Pte Walter Burrows 19011 RWF

Hello, I am trying to pin a soldier, who survived, down for his son.

The man above is a likely candidate. The MIC list 14-15 Star trio. France, entered 02/10/15, demob. 20/01??/19

No luck with any other records as yet or a photo'. The son is asking family about whereabouts of medals.

Any helpful observations appreciated. Regards, Jules

Jules,

Can't add an awful lot more, but 19011 Pte (L/Cpl.) Walter Burrows served throughout with the 16th Battalion RWF. I think you'll find that the date (not that well-written) on his MIC is 2.12.15 which corresponds with the 38th Welsh Div. going overseas.

Thanks, again, Clive. I don't have subs. to FMP, Ancestry etc. 19011 is a very strong candidate for being Tony's dad.

Coincidently our Tommy is 19401. also 16th on enlistment with same entry to theatre on MIC.

Can't blame the MIC for Burrows date error. Simple banana finger typo. on my part. My notes agree with you!

More to come hopefully. Regards Jules

Walter Burrows 19011 of Keepers Cottage, Treuddyn. He hasn't turned up on any casualty lists (but they are not complete)

As a Flintshire man he should have a card at Hawarden Record Office that may give you more info.

Thanks Hywyn. Muddies the water a bit. Census 1911 has our man aged 16 with his Nain at Llay, 1901 with his parents also Llay.

Will ask his son if there is a Treuddyn angle. Regards, Jules

I don't know the exact location for the address. The Treuddyn bit is the parish and therefore covers places like Coed Talon. There is a Thomas Burrows in the 1911 in Coed Talon who looks to be a good candidate for brother of the Walter Burrows, Llay you have identified (ie backtracking them both to Llay in 1901 with ages, place of birth etc). I have nil militarily for this Thomas though.

Thanks again Hywyn. As an aside Walter's son approached me first with the comment that since the name is uncommon it should be simple to track if anything exists. Couldn't resist a little chuckle under my breath. Several Walter Burrows hits for Wrexham alone!

Hawarden next Tuesday possibly. May have time to check out the Light Brigade survivor in the church cemetery at the same time. Regards, jules

A quick update for interest. Definitely the right man confirmed by trio in possession of one of the family.

Good result and more to follow no doubt. Thanks again.
