StuartAB Posted 18 September , 2013 Share Posted 18 September , 2013 Both sides believed that God was on their side. The Allies believed that the conflict was to defend true Christendom against Prussian militarism. The blessing of shells may shock us today, but was consistent with WW1 self-understanding. Analogous to religious elements in the launching of naval vessels?
