Lancashire Fusilier Posted 18 September , 2013 Share Posted 18 September , 2013 egbert, It was very interesting to note the military dignity and honours afforded by the Officers and Men of the RFC to their fallen foes. Regards, LF
egbert Posted 18 September , 2013 Author Share Posted 18 September , 2013 Yes that's true. I guess it falls all under "the chivalry in the air" although the Zeps bombed towns and cities.
toofatfortakeoff Posted 20 September , 2013 Share Posted 20 September , 2013 I met the widow of A T Dickinson some years ago, he was in the same flight as Leefe Robinson, and swore it was he put the final shots into the Zeppelin. He was disappointed at not getting the VC. I later worked close to the place where I think Robinson stayed as a student at Sawbridgeworth (one time home of the wonderful Beckhams) the house is still there with a plaque on the main road. Not a million miles from where he shot down his prey. Another fieind incidentally, his grandmother watched it go down and bodies falling from the gantry and a local land man was yelling 'burn you ********.' and she was thinking ''Thats someones son up there.''
