ianjonesncl Posted 18 September , 2013 Share Posted 18 September , 2013 Steve According to the local kelly's directory the Royal Engineer prescence in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1914 was : Northumbrian Division HQ RE 1st (The Newcastle) Field Company RE 2nd (The Newcastle) Field Company RE Northumbrian (Newcastle) Divisional Signals Company RE The location for all these units is given as Barras Bridge which is in the city centre. They were territorial units and part of the Northumbrian Division (50th). The Tyne Electical Engineers were at Cliffords Fort, North Sheilds about 9 miles from the city centre near the mouth of the Tyne. I am not aware of any regular army RE units in Newcastle at that time. Ian
Graham Stewart Posted 18 September , 2013 Share Posted 18 September , 2013 The only regular R.E. unit based in the area was 16th Company, R.E., which was based in North Shields.
