bushfighter Posted 17 September , 2013 Posted 17 September , 2013 The Memorial to the Liberators of Nis, Serbia is one of the finest war memorials that I have seen anywhere in the world. The 1915 panel
bushfighter Posted 17 September , 2013 Author Posted 17 September , 2013 The 1918 panel. This is the Serbian Army that fought its way up from the Salonika Front to Belgrade. Here they clear the enemy out of Nis. (Cpl Jones of Dad's Army had a saying about this kind of bayonet work!)
bushfighter Posted 18 September , 2013 Author Posted 18 September , 2013 This little innocuous building is tucked into the wall of the massive old Turkish fort at Nis. It is an ossuary for the Serbs of Nis who were shot by the Bulgars during the Great War Bulgarian occupation of the city. I guess, as seen on the Post 2 memorial panel, little quarter was offered or given when the Serb Army re-took Nis.
