I am a volunteer at the museum where I am researching for our WW1 Centenary exhibition, working title 'From Bobby to Tommy'. We will be looking at how the force coped when over 600 officers went off to the Front, and at the stories of those who joined up. We will also be remembering those who died.

The main regiments where our officers served were the Manchester Regiment, Grenadier Guards and Lancashire Fusiliers, with a good number in the RFA and RGA, also both the Military Foot and the Military Mounted Police.

We have found some interesting stories already, brothers who served at the same time, letters from a widow to the Watch Committee, plus some medal winners.

If anyone has any information about police officers who served in WW1 from Manchester, Salford, or any of the areas that are now part of GMP that they would like to share with us we would be very grateful.
